Karen Gonsalkorale is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Psychology at the University of Sydney. She was previously a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of California, Davis. Karen holds a Bachelor of Psychology (Hons) and a PhD in social psychology, both from the University of New South Wales.
Karen is an experimental social psychologist who has published on topics including stereotyping and prejudice, social identity, gender role norms, and ostracism. Her current research examines the implications of implicit bias for intergroup relations, how gender role norms shape people’s perceptions of themselves and others, and the psychological effects of ostracism. Karen contributes to educational outreach through her role as international partner for Project Implicit’s Australia site, a virtual laboratory that allows visitors to explore their implicit attitudes towards various social groups. Underlying Karen’s work is a fundamental concern with identifying ways to achieve social inclusion for diverse groups within our communities.
