Bowen is a Senior Research Advisor at The Behavioural Insights Team. Based out of Melbourne, Bowen has worked on projects in a diverse set of fields, including adolescent financial literacy, industrial policy, gambling, transport, infant medication, consumer protection, digital health, and workplace health and safety. Bowen has been involved in the development of a number of machine learning tools that are widely used across BIT. Before joining the team, Bowen completed a PhD in cognitive science at the University of Melbourne, and worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the California Institute of Technology. In these roles, he used machine learning and computational brain imaging approaches to model the emotions of fear, anxiety, and frustration in healthy humans, as well as in patients with brain lesions. He has also previously worked to develop machine learning methods to understand biomedical and neural data, as well as data from online learning platforms.
