This research aims to better understand the experiences and behaviours of people who have recently purchased or who are planning to purchase a new car. This survey will be in the field for data collection in the first half of 2025.
The Australian Government is making significant investments through the National Electric Vehicle Strategy and increasing the availability of charging infrastructure to address known barriers to electric vehicle adoption. This survey research aims to inform the work program about current attitudes, concerns and preferences when purchasing a new vehicle as choosing to replace an internal combustion engine with an electric vehicle, for example, can be a complex, high friction decision. Existing behavioural research into EV adoption has primarily focused on the early adopter cohort, which has a distinct demographic and behavioural profile. As Australia transitions to mainstream EV adoption, there is a need for further research to better understand switching behaviour for Australian consumers.
